Membership Eligibility

In principle and practice, AAUW values and seeks a diverse membership. There shall be no barriers to full participation in this organization on the basis of gender, race, creed, age, sexual orientation, national origin, disability or class.  Individuals eligible to be admitted to membership are those holding an associate or equivalent, baccalaureate or higher degree from a qualified educational institution, a degree from a foreign institution recognized by the International Federation of University Women (IFUW), or a foreign degree acceptable as a basis for admission by graduate schools at qualified universities of the U.S.A.; and who have paid dues (Association + State + Branch dues). The provisions set forth in this section are the sole requirements of eligibility and admissibility for membership. Refusal to admit an eligible graduate to Branch membership shall result in loss of recognition of a branch. The Branch member shall be entitled to vote, hold office, and participate in all Branch activities and programs and receive the publications distributed to all members.

An undergraduate student enrolled in a qualified educational institution shall be eligible for student affiliation with the Branch upon payment of fees established by the Association, State, and Branch board of directors. Special Interest Groups
  • Book Club:

There are two groups: one meets in the morning and the other meets in the evening. The meetings are hosted in a different member's home each month; refreshments are served. The books to be read throughout the year are selected by the group. Check Dates & Doings for announcements about what books are being discussed that month and for the name, address & phone# of the current month's hostess.

  • Play Reading:

Would you like to assume a different identity for a short while? If so, this is the group for you! Play readers meet, once a month, at members' homes for about 3 hours and read the assigned play-which is a secret until the day they meet. The leader reads and assigns the roles prior to the meeting. This is strictly a study group, and, as such, no royalties are paid: play reading members are not permitted to stage, memorize, or costume the plays.

  • Movie Review (Pot Luck):

This group meets once a month, September through June, and has potluck dinners at members' homes. A movie is selected by the discussion leader for the next month. The members see the movie on their own time and come to the potluck meeting for a guided discussion. Members take turns leading the discussions. The hostess provides non-alcoholic beverages and bread or rolls. Those who want to attend must call Betty Gilby for food assignments (appetizer, main dish, salad or dessert). Couples and singles are all welcome. Come for good food and good discussions!

  •
  • Bridge:

Beginners and experienced players are all welcome. Members take turns hosting the games and providing refreshments. Check Dates & Doings for the name, address & phone number of the current month's hostess. Also, you need to call the hostess if you plan to play that month. These are "party" games and provide a chance to have fun and fellowship with other AAUW members.
